The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

Whenever a major awards ceremony approaches, you'll find an outcry for the addition of new categories to recognize overlooked contributions and delight the hearts of fans who have specialized interests.

Another commentator previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. The same goes for tabletop games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case for why my demand is the most urgent and important of all. The demand is this: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and it will always generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise within the realm of video games, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these classifications effectively encompass a lot of ground, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Which classification works within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens outstanding logic titles published annually without proper recognition at major award shows, except when they manage to fit for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition completely that year
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations in 2019
  • A beloved organization game got ignored that year
  • Limited numbers of logic titles barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Value of Brain-Teasers

Frequently they represent small games, but the art of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most engaged experiences globally and have been for over a decade.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals popular creative games for the title of best-selling game of all time; it also contends as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and engaging with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. You could fill a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these are games without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers function at the challenging frontier game development, creating some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Just like cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait decades.
